As with the rest of the County squads in action today, the Rockets had worked all summer to prepare for this morning. Training had been good but now it was all about the real stuff – a match – so as we awoke this morning, the excitement was almost palpable…
It was Leigh Genesis Transformers that were making the journey over to The County Ground and although the sun was beating down, the temperature was as hot as the atmosphere. And as the players from both sides were put through their warm-up’s, a considerable crowd had started to gather. Both sets of coaches gave their final instructions and as that first whistle went, now it was time for action…
And from that first moment to the last, the County players gave it their all. We had some superb attacking movement with some neat passes around the box and some good efforts on goal – and at the other end, our defenders and keeper worked their socks off for the cause. The home supporters were in good voice as they encouraged their heroes all game and when that final whistle went, we were nothing but extremely proud of those kids adorning our famous shirt today. A great display kids – now keep it up!
The handshakes were done with pride and as the players from both sides left the pitch, the fans greeted them warmly. That had been a great advert for u8’s football out there and one that shows the quality we have amongst our younger ranks. A massive thanks to The Transformers for making the trip over and we wish all the best for the season and a safe trip home…
As for County, it’s back to training in midweek – where we’ll tinker with a few ideas – and we’ll be back out again next weekend raring to go again. Make sure you come down to watch that one as well…
