The weather had been nasty all week but as we awoke this morning, we knew that the Bullets definitely had the green light for ‘Game On’. We were taking on Woodbank Weasels and knowing that we’d been improving week on week so far, the County fans were really optimistic as they started arriving for this one. And do you know what? They had every reason to be as well…
Because from the moment the first whistle went until the referee blew it for the last time, the team in blue were fantastic! There were goals galore for both sides and some fantastic football played by all – but special mention must go to George S for his amazing haul and Leon who also managed to bag a brace. The County fans were also quick to celebrate a great goal from Oliver – his first for the club since joining at the start of the season – and from the front to the back, each to a man played superbly…
We were in awe of our Joshua at times – as he made some great interceptions, showed some lovely turns whilst in possession of the ball and set up some great attacking moves – and with George A showing his signature crunching challenges, his game was also complimented by some fabulous feeding of the ball into the feet of our strikers. We looked good out here this morning…
Leon and Ezra were super-strong at the back and in between the sticks as they stopped the Woodbank side from scoring more than they did and as news filtered through that today’s opponents had finished last season as Champions of their league, we realised how well we had been doing here so far…
We stayed strong right until the end and to their credit, so did the Weasels. This had been a great game and when the man in the middle decided he had seen enough and blew time, both sets of supporters knew they’d witnessed a great game of football here. The players were applauded off the pitch and as the Bullets came in, they knew they’d done well out there…
They were all Player of the Match today – but with only one award to give out, it had to go to George S this morning as he showed a finishing and an awareness of where the goal is that belies his tender age. A top-quality performance and this is definitely a kid to watch for the future. Well done mate! Top marks today…
And as the players began to gather their stuff and leave, the smiles and the togetherness that was there for all to see was great. This squad is quickly becoming a little family and with some of the displays they’ve been putting on, we cannot wait to see what the future brings. We made our way home and we were already thinking about next weekend’s game…
