A couple of weeks ago saw some more history made for our great Club – as our u11 Storm girls took on our u11 boys – and what a treat both sets of players provided for the watching faithful. Being the first 9v9 game for some of them as well, they really put in the effort to show how much they’ve all developed in preparation for the coming season…
This was going to be a real challenge for the girls and knowing that it would be a battle until the end, Jonny and Danny prepared their girls well and as the game began, they came out strong and looking to get on the front foot. And with 6 minutes on the clock it was the Storm that took the lead when the ball found it’s way to Georgia and she controlled it well before taking on a couple of defenders and slotting her shot wide of their keeper and into the back of their net. What a finish from the young lady!
The girls were buzzing to take the lead and with the team-spirit really high, we carried on playing some lovely football – tackling welll and moving the ball around the park with ease – and as the chances came, we looked the more likely. So it was no surprise when the Storm doubled our lead when a neat move saw the ball played into the danger-area and there was Yasmin to slam her shot into the back of their net from about 8 yards out. As she wheeled away in triumph, her team-mates rushed to join her and the Storm fans were jubilant over on the right. 2-0 and this was good stuff…
It was at this point that the boys truly realised that they had a test on their hands and as they switched up a level, they began to get their game together and some great football saw them grab themselves a few goals along the way. But to our credit, the girls never gave up and their performances were outstanding from the first minute until the last. Battling right until the final whistle was blown, they really did do themselves justice and despite the scoreline, they can all go home proud from this one…
The handshakes were done with pride and as both teams wished each other well for the season, they left the field to a deserved round of applause. The coaches praised their troops for their efforts out there and the Girl of the Game was awarded to Bonnie for her stunning performance between the sticks. She was brave and made some great saves whilst also distributing the ball expertly, so it was well deserved – and the rest of her team-mates went home knowing that they had put a shift in out there today…
Many thanks to those of you that came down to cheer them all on and we hope to see you all as the season develops…
