And what a difference it makes when we do all of the above! Because today these set of players did everything right and there was some great communication right throughout the ranks. We passed the ball superbly all over the pitch and what impressed the coaches the most was their positioning both on and off the ball – as it was giving us options when attacked and plenty of numbers back when the opponents had the ball – and out marking from the first minute until the last was world-class. That made it really difficult for the opposition to get out of their own half – and that’s always a good sign…
With the girls working as a unit, we were strong all over the park and it was great to see them all supporting each other around this silly new rule they call ‘offside’. A really good first half saw two brilliant goals for our Georgia – the first being a lovely strike with her left-foot and then an even better one with her right – and as we went in at the break, the County fans were applauding loudly gathered over on the right…
The message at the break was simple really – just keep doing what you’ve been doing! We had played really well out there so all we needed was more of the same and everybody would be going home happy. So with their drinks drunk and their lungs re-filled, they were back out there ready to continue their great passing and letting the ball do the work – we only had 9 available players here remember?
But as always, these girls never disappoint – and they all made the right decisions almost all of the time. We were pressing forward as a team and whenever their players got hold of the ball, our marking was that tight that they had nowhere to go. Bonnie was still forced into making a couple of great saves to keep our goal intact and when the game ended, it was the County fans that were the loudest to cheer their heroes…
A fantastic performance from each and every one of the girls that pulled on that famous blue jersey today – and the Girl of the Week was awarded to Georgia for her great team spirit, good footwork and dazzling skills and movement. Both she and Robanna got on the scoresheet but all of their team-mates can take the credit for this performance as they all gave it everything they had..
Massive thanks to our sponsors KLSK, Glenbank Care Home and Matchwinner – and we hope to see you all again the next time we play!
