Walshaw Ladies 3 – 4 Bolton County Women
Sunday 9th August
Whitehead Park
Finally, after a wait of 5 months the Bolton County Women’s Team took to the field at Whitehead Park Bury to face Walshaw Ladies in a pre-season friendly. Conditions were not favourable due to the heat and the pitch which was in real need of a trim.
The game commenced with Walshaw starting the better and they took the lead early in the game. Ironically, the goal was scored after the girls spurned a good opportunity. Despite this setback the girls regrouped and began to put their stamp on the game producing some good football. This resulted in a great move which emanated from the back producing a great chance which Brit finished superbly with her left foot. At this stage, the team were on top but following a defensive mix-up Walshaw took the lead. The girls again rolled their sleeves up and within a few minutes they equalised when a free kick from Becci was deflected onto the bar by the Walshaw keeper, but our goal poacher Kelly calmly knocked in the rebound.
Half time score Walshaw 2 Bolton County 2.
The second half commenced, and the girls took the lead when Becci intercepted a pass from the opposition before running through on goal and finishing in the corner. The game became disjointed as Walshaw suffered through some of their players pulling up with muscle strains which required the physio to come onto the pitch. Several chances were spurned before the 4th goal came when an excellent cross from Amelia was turned in by Brit. Walshaw didn’t give up and scored a good goal bringing it back to 4-3 in our favour. Both teams tired due to the conditions and the game ended
Walshaw 3 Bolton County 4.
It was great to see the girls back enjoying their football and the team spirit was excellent.
Also, a huge thank you goes out to all our loyal supporters who we hope enjoyed a good game of football on a gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon.
